You’ll hear a wide variety of programmes. In the first concert, Paavo Järvi and the orchestra continue their Mahler cycle with Symphony No. 6, also known as the ‘Tragic’. On the second evening, the Tonhalle Zurich is transformed into an opera house: Rossini’s romantic comedy ‘La scala di seta’ is performed in a semi-staged version, conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend. Afterwards, it is Paavo Järvi’s turn again: he conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (‘All Men Become Brothers’) in Gustav Mahler’s orchestration; the performance is introduced by organ improvisations from our featured artist Wayne Marshall. To round off the season, the programme features film music: Charlie Chaplin’s classic “The Gold Rush” will be accompanied live by the “ Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich ” under the baton of film music specialist Frank Strobel.
