What a marathon! Rudolf Buchbinder plays Beethoven's five piano concertos in two concerts, conducting the orchestra from the piano. Buchbinder can probably be described as Beethoven's most loyal fan: He has performed each of these concertos hundreds of times and has recorded them three times - but even though he has long known them by heart, he always finds new details in the numerous historical editions in his collection. On the second evening, the first and last concertos are on the programme - two works that were premiered just eight years apart and yet have travelled a long way stylistically.
