Vivi Vassileva is one of the rising stars on the percussion - this could also be experienced in our Série jeunes in March 2025. Santtu-Matias Rouvali also started out as a percussionist before switching to the conductor's podium. It is therefore safe to assume that this concert will develop a special rhythmic drive. The concert opens with the percussion concerto by the Finn Kalevi Aho, who has set himself the task of writing a solo concerto for each orchestral instrument. And the second work also comes from the Finnish homeland of the conductor, who is coming to the Tonhalle Zurich for the second time after his successful debut: it is Sibelius' extremely popular Symphony No. 2, which develops not only tonal beauty but also a great deal of motoric energy.
