Our focus artist Wayne Marshall has already introduced himself to Zurich audiences as a pianist and organist, now he is presenting himself for the first time as a conductor (leading from the instrument). In this role too, he loves the works of Bernstein and Gershwin, which he combines in this New Year's Eve programme with pieces and arrangements by Duke Ellington and a piece by jazz-savvy Brit Iain Farrington. This music has to sound free, rhythmically sparkling, almost improvised, says Wayne Marshall. He therefore has one main tip for the musicians during rehearsals: "Don't read it, feel it!"
