Focus on Georgia
Four musicians from Georgia can be experienced in the 2026/27 season.
Georgia has developed into a real talent factory in recent years. "This has a lot to do with the mentality of a small culture where young artists are supported and encouraged," says Paavo Järvi.
It is therefore no coincidence that four musicians from the country between the Caucasus and the Black Sea are performing this season. Not only does our focus artist Khatia Buniatishvili come from Georgia, but also violinist Lisa Batiashvili, who has worked regularly with the orchestra for a long time. This time, in addition to Szymanowsky's violin concerto, she is bringing two young pianists to Zurich who are supported by her foundation: Tsotne Tzedginizde (*2009) and Giorgi Gigashvili (*2000). Both have already introduced themselves to Zurich audiences in the Série jeunes, and now both are making their debut in an orchestral concert. Giorgi Gigashvili, who is by no means only a classical musician, will also be performing in dialogue with electronic sounds in a tonhalleLATE. He and Lisa Batiashvili will also perform a joint recital - including a work by her compatriot Josef Bardanashvili.
