Contemporary Music
New sounds, new formats, new experiences: There is much to discover in contemporary works.
As Creative Chair, Swiss composer Dieter Ammann is shaping the programme for the 2026/27 season. Works by him can be heard in various orchestral concerts and a family concert - and he is also giving a public masterclass at the Zurich University of the Arts. Ammann is "a master of colour and orchestration", says Paavo Järvi: "He knows exactly how to make the orchestra shine, and the orchestra always sounds good with him."
In an orchestral concert and our contribution to the SONIC MATTER festival, his music will be juxtaposed with that of German composer Sarah Nemtsov. The Swiss composer David Philip Hefti is composing a new work for the orchestra, which will also be performed in the Elbphilharmonie after its world premiere under the baton of Paavo Järvi. The percussionist Vivi Vassileva will present a percussion concerto by the Finn Kalevi Aho. And there are always new sounds to discover in the chamber music concerts too.
