Gustav Mahler

Mahler Cycle

In February 2024, the new Mahler cycle by Paavo Järvi and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich will begin with Symphony No. 5 and continue in the coming years.

For Paavo Järvi, a Mahler cycle is "the logical continuation of our previous work". He recognises a clear development: "This line from Haydn via Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Bruckner – in other words, German symphonic music – leads to Mahler. Everything is said with him, after that you had to look in other directions." But let's take a closer look at Mahler musically first: from February 2024.

In this interview with Paavo Järvi, you can find out more about the Mahler cycle, his great role models – and how bored stockbrokers changed his life.
