Mahler cycle

Symphony No. 1 on CD and vinyl

After the 5th Symphony, the second release of the Mahler cycle, which will be recorded over several seasons, has now appeared.

"With our cycle, we are gradually unfolding Mahler's work and expanding the picture we have gained from his 5th Symphony by returning to the beginnings - to Symphony No. 1," says Paavo Järvi. "It is the young Mahler, he is still full of hope and believes in the good in the world. We urgently need this kind of music right now."

The beginning of the third movement is particularly moving, when a double bass echoes the famous children's song "Frère Jacques" in a minor key. Frank Sanderell, solo double bass, and Christian Hartmann, solo timpani and percussion, present this passage in our "Classics of the Classics" format.

At the end of January 2025, the 1st Symphony was recorded by the established recording team with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and will be released on CD by Alpha Classics. This symphony will also be released as an LP.
