The orchestra and Paavo Järvi opened the new season with works by Schumann and Bruckner and a lot of musical energy.

Full auditorium, full stage: The opening of the 155th season took place with a large cast. Artistic director Ilona Schmiel and president Martin Vollenwyder welcomed the audience – and also the new main sponsor LGT Private Banking.

Then the podium belonged to the orchestra, its music director Paavo Järvi, the cellist and focus artist Kian Soltani and Robert Schumann: first there was his Cello Concerto, then as an encore an arrangement of his «Abendlied», for which the soloist joined forces with the string sections of the orchestra. Bruckner's monumental Symphony No. 9, which is also recorded on CD, followed after the interval.
